What is Assistive Technology?

Assistive Technology (AT) is anything that will assist students who learn differently (big or small differences) to achieve their learning goals. Assisitve Technology is a piece of equipment or product system that is used to increase, maintain, or improve the functional capabilities of a child (Bugaj and Norton-Darr, 13). It is very important to note that anything can be used as an assistive technology if it is used to help a student learn, meet goals or perform a task (e.g. a wheelchair, a marker, an iPad, etc.).
